Ground breaks on Binghamton 9/11 Memorial
7/21/2011 (Updated 7/22/2011 9:11:03 AM)
Members of the 9/11 Memorial Committee broke ground in Binghamton Thursday.
The monument should be finished in time for the 10th anniversary of the terror attacks.
The memorial, which is on State Street near City Hall, will feature part of a steal beam from the north tower of the World Trade Center.
"Happy, reserved, hoping that our goal is met on this September 11th. We've started digging today and I think that's a monumental ground breaking. We have the funds available now, we down sized the project to fit our funds and everything seems to be going to plan." said Jerry Marinich
Binghamton was one of only 55 cities in the U.S. to receive a piece of the steel beam.
